HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP) - Police have filed misdemeanor larceny
charges against a former High Point firefighter and his wife, who
are also suspected of making false 911 calls, authorities said.
Police accuse Randy Keith Hughes and his wife, Heather Lynn
Hughes, of falsely reporting a truck fire, a utility pole fire and
a house fire, and then stealing a total of about $470 from the fire
stations while crews responded to the calls.
Randy Hughes, who resigned from his job Thursday, was charged
Friday with three misdemeanor counts of larceny, while his wife
faces two counts. They were each charged Wednesday with misuse of
the 911 system.
Randy Hughes was a High Point firefighter for four years. He is
the son of Raymond Hughes, High Point's fire chief from January
1996 to August 1999.
