Adding a clip to your turnout coat
im pondering getting one of those ADD-A-CLIP things for my turnout coat...im wondering if anyone knows if that violates NFPA standard if you have to pierce the OUTER shell of the jacket not the liner. IF anyone has one or has used one let me know what you did and did not like i was thinking of getting the steel hook to put my survivor light any other ideas are greatly appreciated

Is it ok to sew through the coat, I dont know. I personally woudnt worry about it. But if you are, you could use a large split ring ( key ring ) and thread it through behind the rivet that holds the coat snap hook in place. You can then clip the light to it. Its simple, cheap and works.

The clips are fine. They don't involve sewing or modification to the coat. Riveting a flashlight holder on the coat does far more "damage" to the outershell than the small studs used with those clips, and that's how the flashlight clips/dee rings are attached.
