    Default Question

Just wondering does you department issued you id tags for your gear? The ones like the ff's have. They have your name and dept. on them. If so are they plastic or metal?

We just got issued ours. They are aluminum. the are a big help for accountability.

I used standerd military dog tags on my gear that I bought at the local Army/Navy store. The only reason I got them was we started working with another post in co-opertive drills and instead haveing 3 people and no need for tags ,the amount of people went up to about 30 at most.
    The tag went like this.

    Name
    Department
Rank----explorer---not chief explorer or lt. incase you goto a real fire, they know what you are right away!!!!
    Post number

    Good luck!

I have only 1 readable tag and that is in my turnout coat pocket. The rest have been melted to various degrees, so now they have white medical tape on them with my name wrote on them. And that is what happens when you leave them attached to your helmet in a fire.

As for identifiying my gear...thats simple! Its the dirtiest looking gear on the department. And BEFORE ANYONE says something..it gets washed after every fire, but since I do alot of work it gets dirtier than most . Plus it has a HAZAMT Tech patch on the Right shoulder and a half melted Glo-flex flag on the radio pocket.

yep, we've got 2 tags that clip to our turnout jackets.

    On the Front:

firefighters (or jr. ff) name, Fire dept and station # and the picture of the firefighter.

    On the Back:

Station name and #, Height/Weight, Eye/Hair Color, DOB

Plus, each firefighter is issued a county fire/EMS id card with all that is listed above plus a couple little things. Chief and Assistant Chief are gold and FF/Jr. FF are white.

our tags are made out of aluminim so they won't melt to eaisly. this is something of what they would look like:

    front:
    _____________
    EXP. CARRY
    _____________

    Back:
    _____________
    HTFD
    _____________

    they are about 3" x 1/2"

They look like the ones I posted but are Blue w/ white in-lettering

    Our department uses a 4-tag system. 3 Green & 1 Blue.

1 Green - Stays on you for identification purposes.
1 Green - Goes onto the apparatus you responded on.
1 Green - Goes to the safety officer.
1 Blue - Used for rehab purposes.

Ours have the department name on top, followed by the member name, and finally his/her ID number. We use hard plastic, tear drop shaped tags.

    No, explorers don't have tags.

Our FF have Velcro name strips attached to their bunker collar and they rip one off and attach it to the board at the entrance.

Yes we have tags attached to our turnouts made of some type of metal. There is one permantly attached and the other has a clasp which the firefighter removes and attaches it to a designated area on the appartus he/she rode on. We are a volly so no one is assigned to a particular rig. the tag attached to the truck lets the officer know who is on the run and if something goes awry we know who and how many firefighters were on the scene and they can be accounted for.
