Exclamation Tonight on History Channel: "Surviving the First 100 Years of the FDNY"

Tonight on the History Channel at 11:30pm

    Extreme History with Roger Daltrey
    Sunday, November 30 @ 11:30pm ET/PT
Surviving the First 100 Years of the FDNY

Roger Daltrey joins New York's Bravest as we recreate life in the early days of the FDNY. Roger goes on a mission with one of the most decorated firefighters, Paul Hashagen, to find out how the FDNY evolved from a bunch of unruly hooligans with buckets to highly trained professionals. At the legendary New York Fire Academy, Roger, Paul, and FDNY firefighters battle conflagrations through the centuries using a broad range of period gear and techniques. TV PG-L

I loved the "authentic" nozzle when they used the steamer! I guess there could be a new debate besides fog vs. sb---------Steam vs. Hantubs!

It was on today at 3:30AM EST and that's the final showing unless you catch a re-run.

That's exactly what I was thinking........ That and when he was talking about his "proverbials" (sp) (at least as far as I can remember that's what he called then) when he was playing with the harness

    It was pretty darn good.

They filmed at the Nassau County (Long Island) and Bergen County(NJ) Police and Fire Academy. The hand tub belongs to someone in Connecticut - and the American LaFrance Steamer belongs to the Wyckoff, NJ Fire Department.

Paul Hashhagen has recently retired from the FDNY and now runs a business doing FF survival training.

Just wish that the show could have been longer.

If anyone wants a copy of the show, contact me thru my profile - and I'll see what we can do...

    Thumbs up

    Adze39,

Much appreciation for your timely post. I was able to program the vcr for the second showing. Now I have new material to use for my Intro to the Fire Service class at the college.

"You're pulling my ****'ah" has got to be the best quote I've seen for some time.

    I missed it.

Then again, I was a little...ummm..."distracted"...by a MOTOS, so I'm not really complaining.

Unlike Pete Townsend, Daltry really was tough kid (he gave Pete his famous broken nose after Townsend hit him over the head with his guitar)

    Post Huh?

Am I the only one who didn't see much to it? The Scaling Ladder was a neat look back, and we traded a couple of comments about running apartment balconies with a roof ladder, but that was about all. I'd have liked to have seen more of the technical side of the Steamer though. Stay Safe....

No you aren't, hwoods. I thought it was cute but I expected much more. It's probably a little difficult to cover 100 years in 30 minutes.
