Question Gift ideas for firefighter husband ...

I am a "retired" firefighter with our local fire department. Since having our children I have not been in the firefighting mode.

However, my husband is still very active in the fire service and I'd like to get him something special for Christmas.

Are there any "must have" tools for firefighting right now?

Is there anything that would be a great gift that is not a tool, such as a magazine subscription etc. He already gets Firehouse magazine but are there any other good ones?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Default Code 3 collectibles

If he is into trucks, go to www.code3.net. They make replica fire apparatus from all over the country, including a lot of different FDNY stuff. I have a couple of their trucks, they are well made and very detailed and not too expensive.

Thumbs up just had a brief discussion about this..

firegirltoalex... do a search of these posts, we just had a discussion about this, a newby was asking about what to carry, and there have been several threads about 'whats in your pockets', 'whats in your turnout gear', etc. very geared towards personal safety, escape etc. and what could be better, than keeping your Ff safe. Good thinking firegirl, gee could ya give my wife a couple of nudges?? LOL Good luck with your shopping.

I gave my dad a fire service themed afghan/throw with matching pillow one year. He really liked it -- it was something he could use rather look at and/or dust.....I forget where I got it from -- one of those companies that sells everything fire-related.

The Vanmark pieces are nice, too if you're going for the collectible route.

    Default Firefighter gift

I was at Borders Books over the weekend, and there is a beautiful, plastic wrapped book that just recently came out. It's a very large book (18" x 14"), it's red leather (either a real leather cover or imitation-couldn't tell)with a raised Maltese cross embossed on the cover. Since I couldn't see the inside due to the plastic, I went to Amazon.com, where I read about the book. It's filled with photos of firefighters, apparatus, and fires in general, and it also talks about the history of firefighting. It was $75.00 at Borders, but it looks as if you can get it cheaper on Amazon. It's called, U]Firefighters[/U]. You'll know you've found the right book, because the proceeds from the sale go to a foundation for Fallen Firefighters (it says this on the outside of the book). If you live near a Borders, check their Social Sciences section or talk to a salesperson. Good luck.

    Thumbs up Bookstore!........

If he likes to read (or just look at the pictures) a gift Certificate from the bookstore works well. Gift Certificates have some advantages: never get the wrong color, one size fits all, does not need refrigeration, will not chip, crack, corrode, rust, dust, or bust. Stay Safe....
