Olin Thompson, former Fire Chief, Board of Trustee Secretary and President passed away this morning. Olin was chief when I first got on the department in 1977 and played an important role in keeping me in the fire service. Nobody that had anything to do with the Ashley Community Fire Protection District cared more about the department than him. It will be a true honor for me to drive our new pumper on its first official act - leading Chief Thompson's funeral procession. I told my wife the other day that it would be a shame if that were to happen. She said it would be only right. She's right.
I found a picture the other day of me presenting Olin with a plaque for his years of service to the ACFPD. It was my first year as chief and the year he retired as board president. I'll not hide that picture anymore, but put it some place where I can see it every day as an inspiration.
I will miss him.

ACFPD have my condolences also.
Jack told me Sunday night that he was not well but I was shocked that his life came to an end so soon. I can't think of a more fitting way to use the new truck for the first time.

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your good friend and colleague.
It was a fitting and proper use of your new truck. What better way to honor a man that has given so much to your district.
I have a photo album of many who have been a part of my fire service career and I wouldn't take a million bucks for it. It's a joy to go back and walk through the memories with those who are no longer here.
Again, Jack; my condolences.
