Default sorry if this has been asked already RE : 880's

Has anyone seen in person, the new 880 that cairns has? Is it a similar weight and size? I personally wear a leather, however, members of my department are attempting to make the new 880 the issued helmet again, as it was prior to the new NFPA recommendations. Most people that do not have leathers still wear the old 880's without the impact caps due to the size and weight. Any information would be appreciated.

BTW - tried to do a search for this subject, but since "880" is too small of a word to search for, it wouldnt let me so I apologise ahead of time if this has already been answered.

The only thing I can say about them, (I have not seen one in person) is that they are smaller than say a 1010. I believe they are closer in size to a 660 metro style, with a traditional shape. There was a tread about this not very long ago..... but I'm not sure what the title was. From what I have read about them, I would be ticked off if someone was trying to make them "issue" in my Dept.

    thanks.

i am still curious about the weight/size VS the old 880

there are probably about 150 or more of the old ones still in service with us...people are interested in getting the new ones however if they are compareable..

We presently have around 10 of the new 880's being tested. Of these 10 my squad company has 2 that my senior firefighters use. They look like the original 880 but seem to have a little more weight to them and also seem to have a smaller brim on the back. The Eagle is flatter than on the original 880. It also doesn't seem to sit as high as the 1010 does. The liner seems to be very similar to the 1010's. My senior men seem to like them but we've only had them for about 3 weeks. I'll let you know more after they've been tested for awhile. I still wear my original 880(24 years now) and love it. It's my good luck charm, so I'm not going to stop wearing it.
