Question When Did Your Fire Dept. Start?

I WAS JUST WOUNDING WHEN YOUR DEPT. BECAME A DEPT. ?
SALT RIVER FIRE DEPT. STARTED ON SEPT. 12 1982. THE FIRST FIRE TRUCK WE HAD WAS A GARBAGE TRUCK WITH A PUMP ON IT.

First chartered fire company in Ocean County, NJ...hence the name Ocean County Fire Company #1, later shortened to Ocean Fire Company #1. Chartered in October 1885. Still %100 volunteer. Last year lost a member that had 65 years of service to the company.

And No, Beach Haven, you're not older, you weren't chartered till 1912! Read your own history book.

Hey moose, Im not sure if you maintain that site or not but you keep mis-spelling Pierce. And if you got something made by E-One, thats how you should say it--not E-1 then it sounds like its "Engine 1". Also I would take the VIN#'s of the site, thats something you dont want to go advertiseing.

    Just my own opinion though.

We were started in 1883. Our name came from the Friendship Fire Company of Reading which gave us our first hose cart on the condition that we be named Friendship also.

The hose cart is on display at the Boyertown Musuem of Antique Cars.

The first formal meeting of the Plymouth Township Volunteer Fire Department was held March 15, 1948, at this meeting the roll showed twenty-five men on the roster.

The first piece of appartus was purchased from Austinburg in April 1948, It was a 1932 Model B Ford truck with a 1000 gallon capicity. Housed in the township garage on Carson Road, this truck became the force that started to slowly and not so always positively pull the community together. In just seventeen months, Plymouth Fire Department held an open house to show off the latest ability in pumpers.

The ability and determination of the people, trustees and firemen brought forth a 1949 Pumper-Tanker, now 2000 gallons of water could be taken to every fire.
