looks good BUT....
You may want to remove your personal information from this thread, for your own protection (you just can't be too careful these days). The resume looks great though, very well laid out and easy to read format.
Thanks for the help, did not think of to remove personal info. now I am not able to edit it.
#1- I would also delte or edit your personal info.
#2- Get some more info. or ideas from Capt. Bob
There should be an "edit" button at the bottom of your posting. This allows the author to edit or remove the posting.
There's no harm in putting experience first. In fact, your education as an EMT-B rather magnifies the fact that you don't have fire training. We so often say that training is just a portion of what departments want to know, but I wouldn't start with education primarily because it's not often a big consideration. If someone is FF2, Haz-Mat Ops, Rescue Systems, etc, etc... yeah pronounce that within the resume & oral if you can slide it in about this being a way you've prepared for the position. The BS from OSU is terrific, and it's impressive to many looking at your resume, but it's not gonna sell you. Spanish? Use that to your advantage, especially given our need for language assistance. Sometimes less can be more. The business part of your degrees might distract an oral board ("this kid wants to RUN a fire department -- he wants MY job"). While the fraternity portion of your experience shows leadership, it may (and others please weigh in on this too) come with a negative connotation, so I'd leave it off if you can live without it there. I'm impressed with the consistency of verb tense, as most people will write in past and present in the same list. What's a sworn position? Is this volunteer, full time? It may be clarified to assist anyone else who's reading it. As for other little things, maybe writing "phone:" or "email:" at the top is redundant and takes valuable space the eyes don't need to look at. The number & your address with the @ should be evident to the reader. As for dates & places of employment or school, I would try to set them off in a subtle way (underline, bold, italics) just to create some separation from other items. Words & other things blending together in a structured document just frustrate readers. Good luck!
Thanks for the help. All of this is great information. I have little to no experience in terms of firefighting so all I know to put on there is my education. This is the dilemna I am encountering. Thanks again Kevin for the great help. I have not been able to EDIT the post.
Hmmm.... I can't recall the younger days of posting. Maybe one has to be a senior member to edit postings. Until then, you junior members and guests get mocked & ridiculed for mistakes or whatnot!! ;)
