Default "Alright, quit fooling around, its time to come back in from recess..."

Girl, 8, gets stuck between tree trunks near Somersworth playground
SOMERSWORTH — A Maple Wood Elementary student became wedged between two tree trunks near the playground during recess Friday and had to be rescued by local rescue personnel.

The 8-year-old girl from Somersworth was playing by the crook of the tree, composed of one larger trunk 8 inches in diameter and one smaller, according to Fire Lt. Kenneth Vincent. The blowing wind expanded the space between the trunks and the girl slid down to the bottom of the crook.

Her body became wedged and she could not get out.

Fire, police and American Medical Response responded to the scene when the call came in from Maple Wood at 12:26 p.m.

The fire department inflated two rescue air bags between the trunks. These bags can lift 10,000 pounds each, according to Vincent.

The girl’s jacket and some of her clothing had to be cut. The air pressure inside the bags separated the trunks and the girl was lifted out of the crook.

The girl was shaken but unharmed when she was checked by AMR. Her mother was on scene and transport to the hospital was refused.

The smaller trunk was cut down.

Firefighters offered a slice of the tree to the girl and her brother accepted the token of remembrance.

I just saw a story on one of the US stations tonight about a boy who was pinned under a 6 foot snowball that the kids were rolling at recess. The principal and a parent helped break the ball apart to get him out, and then they performed CPR to revive him. He is doing OK, but who would have seen that one coming.

Geez, it's dangerous to be a kid these days.
