*** REPORT FROM THE LINE OF FIRE ***

    LOS ANGELES, CA:
    GREATER ALARM STRUCTURE FIRE:

On Thursday, December 18, 2003, at 0048 hours (12:48 a.m.), eleven companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, two Battalion Officer Command Teams, one Battalion EMS Supervisor, the Tractor Company and three LAFD Rescue Ambulances, under the direction of Assistant Chief Roxanne Bercik, responded to a Greater Alarm Structure fire at 4811 West Adams Boulevard in the Mid-city area. First units on the scene reported a 75’ x 100’ commercial structure with fire showing from the rear of the structure and heavy smoke showing from the interior. Firefighters using hand lines aggressively attack the fire confining it to “Walter’s Flooring” (carpet storage/installation business), a cabinet manufacturing business, and a two-story dwelling and extinguished the fire in forty-six minutes. The fire was confined to a large amount of baled/rolled carpet and accessories inside and outside of the building. Seven occupants were displaced from the two-story dwelling and assisted by the American Red Cross. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is listed as under investigation. Fire damage is still being tabulated.

    MEMPHIS, TN: 12-18-03

MD10 fire incident at Memphis TN Int'l Airport
2491 Winchester Road. Nearest major intersection would be Airways Blvd.

    Happened around 1230pm....

Inbound from OAK.. landed on 36R, right gear collapse, was on fire on the ground. Burned through the ribs on the right side.

5 on board; all evac'd, minor injuries, if any.

    Good visibility, gusting winds here.

Currently blocking 36C and 36R at MEM. The blockage isn't affecting anything right now. Wait until tonight when we have the FedEx push with holiday volume.

For some background ... Memphis Station 33 covers the airport with both ARFF as well as structure equipment. Rural Metro runs a fire operation over at the FedEx hub. They would be backup to Memphis ARFF and also backup to ensure the airport maintains it's ARFF index for operations. The Rural Metro operation is responsible for the FedEx hub which includes a large amount of aircraft ramp space. The camera footage I've seen is ugly.
