Default The "Official" winter in the flatlands

The other winter in the flatlands was already 7 pages and winter was not officaly here until today. Besides the other one had taken a nasty turn discussing hats.

    Lets get winter started now!

    Default Confused already.

So, if I have "official" winter business to discuss, this is the place.
If I have "unofficial" winter stuff like hats to discuss, it needs to be in the other thread?
Jay; can I get a ruling on this? I know you're absent, but you are still the president and we cannot continue to operate willy nilly here in Illinois.
I mean; first the state fire marshal and now this.
    Get back to me pronto!
Oh and you still owe me a congratulations for being voted Crusty of the Year by my peers. Hell, I even heard from the white house.

Winter? Heck, it was 57 here today. Supposed to get a few snow flurries tomorrow, though. Art, I didn't get a chance to congratulate you. It's great that a fellow Illinoisian, even if it is a northerner, is bestowed with such an honor. Congratulations.

Just means it is officaly winter now, even if it feels more like fall.
BTW congrats Art. The White House?...OH! you know someone down the street that lives in a white house.
Missed you on Leno and Letterman. You would think crusty of the year would be a required appearance.

    Default Check this out!

Thought you all might want to see this. I posted it in the Off-Duty Discussions as well.

    From Glenview, IL:
The Glenview firefighters were told to take down their Christmas decorations, even though they were indoors in the firefighters’ main living quarters. The decorations of lights, a Christmas tree and a Santa Claus were found to be offensive by some residents. Apparently, they could be seen from the street!
A spokesperson for the village of Glenview said that they had received calls from residents who were upset with what they perceived as Christmas or “Christian” decorations on the fire station.
Earlier this year, the firefighters had decorated the outside of the station, but again, a resident complained to Glenview officials that the decorations violated the separation of church and state doctrine.

    Default Only in America

Hard to believe all the crap that happens now days. I wonder what would happen if you accidently got one of them "mutts" on your christmas card list. Things like this are what makes me thankful to live in a rural area where we still know who most of our neighbors are! GOD BLESS AMERICA and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

If you are affended by any of the above statements...Don't Read it

It isn't only in the bigger places. Pinckneyville, the county seat next door, hasn't had any decorations on their courthouse lawn for a couple of years because of the same situation. There was a story on the news about them the other day. It's absolutly pathetic that there are people who would force their disbeliefs on the rest of us. By GOD, we PRAYED before our CHRISTMAS dinner at the fire department last week and I thanked GOD for keeping us safe the past year.
CR, this is one my pet peeves and you got me started. Have you got an address for one of these people. I'll send them a Christmas card.
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND GOD BLESS AMERICA!

P.S. I just remembered a story I heard on the St. Louis news the other day. A high school senior that did a morning announcement "show" on their closed circuit TV got banned for doing it for a month because he closed with "...and may God bless". Same thing as Christmas. Discusting!

    Jack:
It wasn't my intention to get you fired up for Christmas. I guess we should rejoice in the fact that people around us still allows us the freedom to express our love for God and the birth of Jesus Christ.
I have no problems with sects of religion that are different than mine, except the suiciders, of course and I think that it's a gross miscarriage of reason when one is excluded/included over another.
I agree with anyone who says, "don't force your views on me and I will do the same".
From west central Illinois, I want to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
If you have duty today, please stay focused and stay safe.

It has been a good Christmas. Just got back from my family's celebration at my mother's house. All of the family except one brother was there and he called from home near Witchita, KS. We've been fortunate to have everybody back home, with the exception of a nephew that passed away this year. Hope Christmas 2004 is as good.
We did come home to find out our refrigerator isn't working. Oh, well, maybe another family present.
