So what is this all about?

Political correctness overrules the majority and destroys what our forefathers gave to us. I cannot find the proper words to say about how I feel. G

If they want to get around it, they could just say that they were celebrating secular Christmas. You know -- the one with Santa Claus, reindeer and such. I firmly believe that the seperation of church and state does not yet cover decorations dedicated to an overweight elf.
As for anyone that would insist firefighters take down decorations... well, humbug to you!

I wonder, do the Village Government offices close on Christmas Day? I hope not, becase that might seem like they are celebrating Christmas and we wouldn't want them to offend anybody!
Mostly it sounds like some serious whiners get their way...again.Capt. K

You can bet that they do not remain open. You can also bet that most of the "officials" are taking half days off to do their Christmas shopping!

Yeah, I have been saying that the ACLU is going to destroy all religion in this nation for years.
Now that you read this, how many of you would love to see the ACLU dismantled by the Federal Govt.? The same BS is going on in Cranston RI and it spreading like a cancer. One Idiot complains and the entire populace has to suffer without CHRISTmas.
Merry CHRISTmas to all, have a BLESSED NEW YEAR AND GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILIES AND BROTHER FIREFIGHTERS!

Too Much Free Time!!!
People have way too much free time on their hands. Sometimes I feel like they stir things up for the sake of stirring things up. There's lots of things I don't like but after working the fire house, working the private ambulance company, maintaining my home, and being a dad, they aren't on top of my list of things to worry about.

I hear what you are saying Hobbitt, but that is what they are counting on. They are counting on people like you and me that are burning candles at both ends to have more important things to worry about. Be safe brother. Happy Holidays.

SO these decorations were in the dormitory? And the person who laid the complaint looked in through the window and saw them and registered their disapproval?
So does that make the complainent guilty of being a "Peeping Tom"? Peering through windows into living quarters would qualify I would think. And in order to register a complaint they should have to give their name and address which would make it easier for the local constabulary to find them to lay the charges.
Just a thought
This is of course only my humble opinion, but then again, its likely the only one that matters.

That's crap!!! I live really close to Glenwview and I heard about it from one of the paid-on-calls here who is a full timer on Glenview. From my point of view I think it is invading our privacy and freedom. My 2 cents

This is why you should'nt automatically vote for who a Union tells you to. What difference does it make if the guy you supported is better on firefighter issues, if he's raising your taxes and vote's for issues that erode your liberties in your private life! Think about it.

Fact No. 1-- You can't please everyone. And from the largest to smallest there will be someone who complains.
Fact No. 2-- As a result of a court ruling in Federal Court case in California where a fireman was supported by the ACLU, Firehouses are according to the ruling "Defacto homes" and living areas of firehouses are not subject to the same rules as other civic buildings. The case is JOHNSON v. CTY. OF LOS ANGELES FIRE DEPT., (C.D.Cal. 1994)865 F. Supp. 1430
I can't believe they really even took that person seriously. I don't know to many firehouses that don't have the firemans prayer hanging somewhere.
Oh well...

What A crop of crap.... We don't decorate our department anymore because one of biggest supporters is non-christian and we rely heavily on this persons donations... I guess in the fire service we're not too far from politicans after all.. I hate the fact that we have to abide by certain "feelings" of people. However, we do open each one of our meetings with A PRAYER, and if someone doesn't like it, they are free to wait until it is over... Ask any elected official about this matter and they will say, it's a shame, or I don't like it... Remember to ask the same question in November during the next election... YOU MAY HAVE TO REMIND THEM !!!!!!!!

Glenview Village President Larry Carlson said he was disappointed that the firefighters had to take down the decorations. Carlson noted, however, that the village has a policy of not decorating any public buildings.
"Under the Supreme Court, the policy is basically all or nothing. You either let everybody come in or you have none, and it's been a long-standing village policy that we go under none."
So the lead jellyfish in this fishbowl is Village President Larry Carlson (and no doubt the city attorney). No spine or they agree with the agenda of the bellyacher. Supreme Court my rear. So Glenview needs to elect an President that has a pair. Proper response would be "The Christmas decorations stay and I'm donating $20 to the dept fund. Saturday there will be a manger/stable display contest in the town park. Would you like to participate."
You're offended or intimidated? That's your personal weakness and problem, not mine. Get over it and get over yourself.

This country is a Republic, based on the rights of the INDIVIDUAL, not the majority. We can't run our nation as a demogogue, based on whatever the majority thinks. Keep all religious items and diatribe out of government buildings and there will be no problems. How many threads must be started on this issue??Political correctness overrules the majority and destroys what our forefathers gave to us. I cannot find the proper words to say about how I feel.

"Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
or prohibiting the free exercise thereof
You see this is the part that the ACLU and all of it's liberal friends seem to leave out when they bring up the Bogus thing about "Separation of Church and State."
The First Amendment, in Laymans terms, says:
The Government will not Endorse any particular religion, however it will also not prohibit the people from practicing any particular religion.
Basically, if a Government Building has a sign on it that says "Allah is Awesome" they are wrong. (although because we are being taught to be too tolerant of Islam, I am sure it would be accepted)
However if a government employee wishes to have a bible or a picture of Jesus Christ on his desk, there is no reason to ask him to take it down.
Read up on your Constitution. Liberals make alot of arguments without reading the facts. They also withdraw into a corner when asked to present facts. Liberalism is based on Anger and Inaccurate History.
Have a Merry Christmas!
And Mr. Miller, a BLESSED CHRISTMAS to you!
