    Some quick explanations----
HP1 is High Pressure 1, a modified 76 ALF Century. HP1 runs out of Sta42 with E42's crew. Kevin can give us the details on this piece.

The HT TF's are Hose Tender Task Forces. HT1 TF consists of E15, a Pierce Lance pumper and HT1, a modified 76 ALF Century which carries about 3000' of 5" LDH. HT2 TF consists of E24, a Pierce Lance pumper and HT2, another modified 76 ALF Century which carries a bunch of 5" LDH.

The EU's are emergency units, Memphis' phrase for paramedics ambulances, the only kind the city has. There is a FF-EMT and FF-EMTP on board the EU's. They are called simply "Unit 6" on the radio. R1 is the E-One tool box heavy rescue and R2 is the 2000 E-One with 55' snorkel. Trucks 2-7-16 are the 3 platforms in the city. The AirTruck is the SCBA support unit which runs out of a facility behind Sta16.

These four incidents covered a large section of the city. Basically from the airport north to Chelsea Ave if you're familiar with the city, as far east as Mendenhall/Winchester for E35's moveup to Sta30 at Getwell/Rhodes.

Memphis FD runs an 800 digital trunk system but the station vocals are still analog. It's quite possible there were other moveups, calls, and other movements that were done on the fire ops channels and never made it to the station vocal channel. A busy night. Hats off to the "C" shift... they ran their tails off for sure.

And the temperature was a balmy 30 degrees with a slight northerly wind. Ahhhhh...... firefighting in the south where it is warm..... :-(

    LOS ANGELES, CA:
    HAZMAT/STRUCTURE FIRE

On Monday, December 22, 2003, at 1103 hours (11:03 a.m.), nineteen companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, four Battalion Command Officer Teams, two Hazmat Teams, one Battalion EMS Supervisor, the tractor company, and seven LAFD Rescue Ambulances, under the direction of Assistant Chief Gregory West responded to a Hazardous Materials/Structure Fire at 6945 North Farmdale Avenue in the North Hollywood area. First units on the scene reported a large, 100’ x 200’, commercial building with heavy smoke showing. Firefighters using handlines aggressively attacked the fire burning in an acid vat and in the ventilation system of “A.N.O. BRITE” a metal plating company. Automatic activation of the ventilation system caused the fire to rapidly spread to the roof area of the structure. Firefighters confined the fire to the structure and extinguished the fire in approximately forty-five minutes. During firefighting operations, water from hose lines and the building’s sprinkler system caused several vats containing nitric, sulfuric and phosphorous acid to overflow creating an environmental hazard. Approximately twenty workers were evacuated as a safety precaution and one person was accessed on the scene and released. Cleanup of the environmental hazard was turned over to a private company. The cause of the fire is listed as under investigation and fire damage is estimated at $150,000. ($100,000 structure and $50,000 contents)
