Default Wanting to become a firefighter...

I am only 17, and I have one semester left in High School. What are some basic steps I could go to become a firefighter? I always wanted to have a career to help people, teacher, police officer, psycologist, etc. I am really good with computers and always thought that would be something I would end up doing, but now that I have a job with computers, I don't like it as much, and would much rather have a career helping people. Money is not an issue with me either. I would like to get paid, but just enough to get by.

I am 5'6 with contacts, so I don't know if that would effect anything. I am also going to go to college, and wanted to know what sort of classes I could take, or what I could major in. Fire investigators always inrested me also.

Oh, and I recently was browsing the forums and saw a post about "Generation Y", I hope this doesn't effect your judgement on me =/.

    Lightbulb Ok..here we go...

    Ok- Please read-

#1- If you dont want to lumpped into the
"Gen Y" crowd, then go back and read my
thread and dont act like them. (ie- expecting
things to be done for you and thinking youre
    owed a job)

#2- Also, get a jump on the competetion. Go
    to this site- www.eatstress.com

#3- Stay away from smoking pot, excessive
drinking, etc. I am not going to tell you
how to live your life, but you will have to
account for your past to a background
    investigator in the future.

Thanks for the information. Currently I am working full time and still going to high school and making good grades. I hope to save up to go to college and study as much as possible.

I have also started working out a lot more, 3-4 times a week, and running a mile, working my way up to maybe 3 or 4 miles a day if I get the time.

I also know I have to work hard as hell to get the job I want from reading all the threads here and many other places.
