Hello I have been looking at different types of trucks and i have just one question, On the Seagrave trackor drawn aerial ladder what is the compartment on the back of the truck for, i have seen it on real life rescue shows a guy the rides back their why is he there. if someone knows the answers the these questions please email me at Rosier_20@yahoo.com. That's the Tiller Seat.
The rear axle on tractor-drawn aerials is steerable. This allows the truck to make very tight turns and weave in traffic with much more manueverability than a standard tractor-trailer can. Another time it comes in handy is if the aerial is being backed into an alley or similiar position.
So the guy in the back is simply steering the back of the truck.

if it do'nt steer in the front and back and bend in the middle it ain't a truck.
