i'm looking for a good light to carry in my turnouts... i'm also a fan of mag lites. they've always treated me well and lasted. do you guys think they would be a good choice? i'm not willing to pay $100 for a flashlight and mag lites are pretty cheap and can be found pretty much anywhere.
so, what do you guys think? yay or nay? also, why do you think what you think?
finally, what's a good headlamp for my wildland helmet?
thanks!![]()

Mag Lite

IMHO Mini-Mags just dont cut it in the light dept. I would go with something made by Streamlight. They're extremely reliable very bright. Sure they cost abit more than a mini-mag......but they're alot better.

Mag lites just don't cut it in the pocket light category, I would sooner have a 3 dollar disposable garrity in my pocket than a mini-mag. Go for a streamlight if you want a pocket light, or stick with the garrity. I have a streamlight scorpion. They are expensive to feed, but they throw a lot of light for a little pocket/emergency light.

Super Sabrelite
I have used a Pelican Super Sabrelite for about 5 years and for the money ($20 to $30), it's the best value on the market. It uses 3 C cell alkaline batteries and has a very bright beam. The light is guaranteed against anything except shark attack and children under 5. It is also watertight to 500 feet.

I personally have a 3 D cell red mag lite in my bunker pants, but my favorite is the Polystinger by Streamlight (rechageable) it just kicks butt for a personal light ..........and costs about 30 bucks I think.

I am a big believer of "you get what you pay for." I use a rechargable streamlight like the police use, equivalent to the size of a 4 D cell light. This light is so darn bright you can shine coon with it! It is durable and can take a beating. Like someone else said before, can take anything but a shark attack and kids under 5!
You pay a little more, yes. I have had to buy 2 lights in 12 years and the second purchase was my own fault, it was stolen out of my truck. The cheapest I have found is on this website:
www.brightguy.com
They have all kinds of flashlights.
Keep your head down and your powder dry.

My choice is the Stinger by Streamlite. I have the aluminium
not the poly. Its a few dollars more but takes a beating.

I SOOOO AGREE...I LOVE THE PELICAN AND STREAMLIGHT
DESIGNS. IT SEEMS LIKE MAG LIGHT'S TARGET CONSUMER
IS THE HANDYMAN AND TOW TRUCK DRIVER, NOT FIREFIGHTER.
I WOULD GO WITH THE PELICAN. THEY DO TAKE A BEATING
AND THE WARRANITY IS GREAT. I SENT IN ONE LIGHT THAT
HAD SOME BATTERY ACID DAMAGE AND GOT A NEW ONE BACK
RIGHT AWAY. I AM HAPPY. THEY ARE CHEAP ON EBAY.

I borrowed a Streamlight 35x from a security guard as we were running in to make a rescue at a working apartment fire early one morning (my Lightbox bit the dust at the front door). I was so utterly impressed that I asked for one for Christmas the next year.
It's an expensive light, but I've had it for eleven years and it has earned the nickname, "The Flashlight of The Gods". That baby can flat out put out some light.Michael "Mick" Mayers

I now own 2 Underwater Kinetics UK4AA lights, one on my helmet one in "real" job work coat (this light is intrisically safe UL Class 1 Div 1&2). The newer models have an on/off switch, older ones are twist the lens like a minimag. Less than $17 and amazingly bright.

I also own a UK4C (uses 4 C cells, looks like the 4aa) dive light, love it, just have a hard time finding bulbs for it.
I own 3 minimags and keep one in my bunker pants pocket as a back up, one in my EMS bag, and I have a 3D Mag in my pickup truck, but they make poor fire lights, too heavy and big, drop it or even just set it down it rolls away. I tried making a strap for it, but it kept slipping off the end.
I also finally broke down and bought a Survivor for my turn out coat, although I find the chief uses mine more than I do. I really like my helmet mounted UK4AA and use it all the time.______________________________ __________________

garrity light
i prefer garrit y lights cut about a 1 inch strip out of an old tire tube put it arround your helmet and it holds two garrity lights prefectso when you are cralling in a fire you have light in front of you hands free
posts are solely my opinion.

Hey BOU,
Been coon hunting for a long time. Need a couple coon dogs and some bright lights. I use streamlights all the time. Lots of fun gettin' a coon tree'd. C'mon up to Wisconsin sometime and will take you out hunting. Got a rifle? I use a 410 shotgun, more stoppin power!
