AUSTRALIA
NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) and State Forest firefighters have successfully contained a fire in the Goonoo State Forest, 30km northeast of Dubbo.

The fire has burned 2300ha of State Forest and private property since it began on Monday morning (January 5). A stolen car torched by vandals is thought to have started the blaze.

Firefighters have put deep containment lines in place and will be actively patrolling these to ensure they are maintained in case weather conditions cause concerns.

There are still 200 firefighters working in the area and they continue to be supported by five fixed wing aircraft and four helicopters.

The risk of the fire breaching the lines is minimal at this stage, although this is dependent on weather conditions.

Dubbo's weather is expected to include temperatures of 28 degrees and west southwest winds of 40kph gusting to 60kph and relative humidity of 19 percent.

A Total Fire Ban has been declared in the Dubbo area. Total Fire Bans apply to North West Slopes, North West Plains, Central West Slopes, Central West Plains and the Hunter weather districts.
