    Question Code 3 Screaming Eagle

I ran across the Code 3 Screaming Eagle electro mechanical siren while looking on their web site for lights. This is a new product, does anyone know much about this siren? I read the specs but what does it sound like, a "Q"?

Its a nice looking design, and the low amp draw is a plus. Have not heard one, but I would assume that it, like all other mechanical sirens, sounds like a "Q".

I have heard several types of mechanical sirens and while they sound alike, they dont have the same sound.

I have used both the original Federal "Q" and the Mars version of the same. The Federal is smooth and has a nice, full sound while the Mars is rather flat but does have a higher pitch at top end.

The Mars is faster to full speed but drops off as soon as you let off the switch. The Federal has a slow, smooth wind down. The Mars is a direct drive while the Federal uses a clutch. They draw about the same amps on start up.

It would be interesting to hear how this Code 3 compares to the others.

This looks a lot like the new Timberwolf siren.

    Question

Is the Mars siren still available? If it is does anybody have a website or contact information for Mars products?

According to some siren experts I know, the Code 3 Screaming Eagle is nearly the exact same unit as the Timberwolf. There was some in-fighting among the Timberwolf folks and the Screaming Eagle was born. Code 3 must have bought out the rights from Goggan.

You can hear sound clips of the T-Wolf here:

A little tinny sounding, but not all that bad.

I, too, would like to know for sure if Mars is still around. I know they were a division of Tri-Lite in Chicago as of about 10 years ago. They always had unique products. Other than the 888 light, I haven't seen a Mars product on a new rig for years, though.

Another option in electromechanical sirens is B&M. They still are in business out in California, making the Super Chief and the S-8. They must be a low volume operation, though.

I wonder if this will become a legal issue since Federal patented the sound of the "Q"?
