Arkwright fire chief Vincent Sherbert was arrested in Union County.

Union, SOuth Carolina - A Spartanburg County fire chief is one of two men accused of trying to spend a counterfeit $100 bill in Union.

36 year old Vinson Leonard Sherbert is chief of the Arkwright Fire Department. He and 26 year old Jerry Randall George were charged with forgery Sunday.

Sherbert has also been charged with driving without a license.

Police reports say George used a fake $100 at a convenience store in Union and received $68.51 in change. The clerk called police after deciding the bill was fake.

Police stopped the men and arrested them.

Sheriff Howard Wells says the vehicle the men were in is leased to the Arkwright Fire Department.

The Secret Service is assisting in the investigation.

That's one way to solve a department's budget woes- print your own money!

From my understanding he went to two different "stop and robs" within a few minutes of one another to purchase cigarettes. What happened to the change from the first purchase...

He probably knows more than he is saying...
