We are glad to have all of the Maritimes and Newfoundland living here but we draw the line when it comes to "Upper Canadians".
Manofire, you dont have "all Newfoundland' living up there, you don't have me or any of the half million others still living down here. However I do know lots of newfies who have moved "up along"

Scoop here they use a similar formula an Lt makes 115% of a senior F/F and a Capt 121%

    Thumbs up Western Albertan Firefighter

Just a little thing to add to all these topics for those of you interested in what ff'ing in Canada is like.

After 2 years of hard work, multiple courses and many fires in a small, rural Central Alberta Fire and Rescue Dept,I still love my job.
Of course, the pay sucks, being a vol and all but hey, I'm doing this for the love and not the money of course, lol. However I do know of some paid members who do very well on their salary and have good benefits to boot. We are volunteer in every sense of the word and are not paid per call either.

I refrain from the old arguement of whos best, vol or paid as we all do the same job so why argue? We are all brothers and sisters are we not?

Being the only female in my dept has not made life difficult. I have always been treated with respect which I gladly return and in no way has any of the men tried to give me a break in any way including my chief. I am expected to pull my share of the load just like anyone else and I am very happy to do so. I can't imagine doing anything but FF'ing now. I have taken multiple fire courses thanks to my chief telling me whatever schooling I want , I may take. Knowledge is power and I'm stocking up my arsenol anyway I can. I am now a Fire Investigator and a Saftey codes officer and the first female to make officer ever in my dept. For those who say females cannot make it in FF'ing, I suggest you think again.

Well that's my two cents, think I'll sit back now and see what everyone says.

Lead, follow or get the hell outta my way!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's not true, we talk about a lot of things, Basketball for instance we invented it, just didn't want it. Football, our game is superior (3 downs versus sissy 4 downs). Baseball, both Cy Young winners have Canadian connection, one is Canadian the other plays on a Canadian team.

I mention the above just for a little fun, I am perhaps one of the most avid United States boosters you will ever find.

The only difference between the average American and the average Canadian is the American likes Celene Dion.

PS. Interlope (your word not mine) all you want, your welcome here.

    Default 2 years

You achieved all that in just 2 years 1canadianFF - in a volunteer department.

Do you also have a full time job? It's good to see that it can be done but I suspect that you need to get out a bit more (LOL). It sounds like you'll be the next chief. I hope you are as generous.

-30C how do you survive it's -5C and I've got the heating on full!

Manofire, I have to vehemently disagree with your first assertion, and agree just as strongly with the latter. NFL football is in my humble opinion infinatly superior to CFL. Go Pats !!

The NFL has far superior players, no argument there. My assertion is that the CFL game is far more wide open and exciting. Grey Cup games are with few exceptions far more exciting than the Superbore. I will be cheering adamently for whichever teams score matches my pool scores.

Enjoy the commercials, they usually are better than the game.
