    MAJOR EMERGENCY STRUCTURE FIRE


    On Saturday, January 17, 2004 at 2339 hours, eighteen companies of Firefighters, five Battalion Officer Command Teams, one EMS Battalion Captain and four Rescue Ambulances under the command of Assistant Chief John Ware responded to a major emergency structure fire at 150 North Soto Street in the Boyle Heights area. First units on scene reported a three-story, sixty-unit apartment building with fire in the attic. Firefighters using handlines confined the fire to the attic and extinguished the fire in thirty-six minutes. No injuries were reported. Fifty occupants of the building were displaced due to the incident and were assisted by the American Red Cross. The cause of the fire is listed as incendiary and under investigation. Fire damage is estimated at $220,000. ($150,000 structure and $70,000 contents)

    2003 - Whitefield and Berlin - NH - Record overnight temperatures of -29 degrees Fahrenheit
