Fire damages basement in downtown S.L. home
An early morning fire in downtown Salt Lake City resulted in heavy damage to a basement.
The fire was reported at 6:37 a.m. Tuesday at a house near 830 South and 450 East. When crews arrived, they found smoke coming from the house and fire burning in the basement, said Salt Lake City fire spokesman Dennis McKone.
The fire was contained to the basement area. Damage was estimated at $10,000. The cause of the fire was under investigation Tuesday, but McKone said it was not suspicious.
Two people inside the house made it out safely. A cat named Skunk was successfully revived by firefighters, McKone said.
Three other cats were unaccounted for, but investigators believe they got out safely.
