LOS ANGELES, CA:
MAJOR EMERGENCY BRUSH FIRE:

On Thursday, January 22, 2004 at 1340 Hours (1: 40 PM PST), seventeen Companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, three LAFD Helicopters, one EMS District Captain and four Battalion Chief Officer Command Teams, along with two automatic aid Companies from the Santa Monica Fire Department and mutual aid from one Helicopter and four Handcrews of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, all under the Command of LAFD Assistant Chief Michael Fulmis responded to a Major Emergency Brush Fire in the 15800 block of Pacific Coast Highway in Pacific Palisades. The first Company arrived quickly on scene to report 1 to 2 acres of brush burning in rugged terrain and being fanned by steady 10 mile per hour winds during Red Flag Fire Weather Warning conditions. Firefighters using handlines briskly anchored the flames and sought to control the wind-driven flanks, which briefly threatened several homes in the area. With the rhythmic assistance of precise water drops from the four Fire Department helicopters, the flames were contained to less than five acres of vegetation and extinguished in just 71 minutes. No structures were damaged and there were no injuries. The fire, reported promptly by a Department of Water and Power electrical crew working in the area, was attributed to wires that arced in their presence.
