MASON, Mich. -- A high school student was arrested after authorities said he stole a school bus and drove erratically before being found asleep inside the vehicle.

The 18-year-old Holt High School student could be charged with unlawfully driving away a vehicle and operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, said Ingham County Sheriff Gene Wriggelsworth.

"If you take a 40-foot-long, yellow bus, you're going to get caught," Wriggelsworth told The Lansing State Journal.

The sheriff's department got a call around midday Monday about the school bus being driven erratically. A deputy spotted the bus parked halfway off a road and found the student passed out inside.

No injuries or damages were reported. The Webberville Community Schools bus had been taken from the Capital Area Career Center in Mason.
