    Default scba pictures

I need some scba pictures for a power point presentation I am doing for in house training this month. I was looking for some blown up bottles or air packs in disrepair. Also some pictures of different ones from old stuff to state of the art stuff. we have scott so if I can get some msa or drager pics that would be great. Thanks for all your help in advance.

Unless this is a very beginning class for newbies and rookies...May I ask why you would spend any time on older obsolete SCBA? What importance do they have for practical application today? Also, why do you need pictures of blown up bottles or packs in disrepair?

I guess if it were me I would take the SCBA my FD was using and go through a complete pre-don check utilizing pictures and written description of each step. Then how to change an air cylinder. Then donning and doffing. Then how to clean and return the SCBA to service. Practical useful information.

If your FD has a compressor and filling station I would, once again utilizing pictures show how to use that. Stressing caution to make sure the pressure is correct for that particular bottle. Even if it is over pressurized the frangible disk should let go before the bottle explodes. The frangible discs are designed to protect the cylinder and for 2216 cylinders it breaks at 3300 psi and for 4500 cylinders it breaks at 5500 psi. When it happens it is VERY loud and akin to a shotgun being fired in sound.

The other thing I would consider is visiting the FDs you mutual aid with and having some info on their packs included in your presentation. Things like how to operate the pack, how to hook up your RIT pack, if you even can depending on age of their packs, and how to change a cylinder.

I can tell you that for me, at this point in my career, if you want to teach me about our SCBA, I don't care what came before them. I care about how these work and emergency procedures and what my responsibilities are regarding cleaning and maintenance. Don't bore me with pictures of filter masks from 1923 because for a practical training it simply is not relevant.

WOW! That turned out to be quite a rant...But I meant every word.

WOW! I hope you didn't take offense in my bluntness. I just find ancient history lessons about what came before a waste of time in many instances. Of course rookies, and newbies, can learn from that in an initial class on the topic, but in a refresher I just see it as time that could be utilized more productively.

Thanks for seeing I was trying to help and not attacking you personally.

Did someone ask for an SCBA fail?

Don't ask me how they did it. I have no idea and they evidently don't have a clue either.....

Management is making sure things are done right. Leadership is doing the right thing. The fire service needs alot more leaders and a lot less managers.

"Everyone goes home" is the mantra for the pussification of the modern, American fire service.

Comments made are my own. They do not represent the official position or opinion of the Fire Department or the City for which I am employed. In fact, they are normally exactly the opposite.

I imagine this is what happens when you do not train to minimum standards. He never expected to go in a working fire so why bother training to put an air pack on. It makes you wonder what else he does not know?
