LOS ANGELES, CA:
GREATER ALARM STRUCTURE FIRE:
On Saturday, February 07, 2004 at 1503 Hours (3:03 PM PST), fourteen Companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, two LAFD Rescue Ambulances, one EMS Battalion Captain and five Battalion Chief Officer Command Teams under the direction of Assistant Chief Michael Fulmis responded to a Greater Alarm Structure Fire at 2127 West Temple Street in the Rampart area of Los Angeles. The first Company arrived during a steady 10 mile-per-hour wind to discover a large volume of smoke at curb level obfuscating a block-long row of one-story businesses. With requests for allied agencies to assist with traffic and crowd control, Firefighters moved briskly to discover a well-involved blaze within “Botanica” a homeopathic health business at the east end of three storefronts. An aggressive and well-coordinated attack with handlines prevented the fire from extending to the common attic of the pre-1933 structure and furthermore confined the flames to the business of origin, with full extinguishment in just 16 minutes. A 45 year-old male occupant escaped the blaze with 2nd degree burns to both upper arms. He was treated and transported to Queen of Angels/Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in fair condition. Loss from the fire is estimated at $110,000 ($75,000 structure & $35,000 contents). The cause of this blaze remains under investigation.
