At 22:40, Guilford County EMS Unit 153 was on the scene of a medical call at Wendover Manor Apartments when they noticed smoke coming from an apartment in the same complex. The initial report stated “Smoke and flames showing”. Greensboro Fire Communications dispatched E-7, E-1, Q-5, Q-7, R-5, Decon 19, Air 1 and Car 1 for the report of a structure fire. Engine 7 was on scene within two minutes and reported “Smoke showing, laying a line". The fire had extended to the attic area, so a 2nd alarm was requested at 22:51. E4, E5, Q9, C3 and Mobile Command Post 1 were dispatched to assist units operating on the scene. GCEMS dispatched Unit 154 and Unit 100 for rehab. The fire was contained in 30 minutes. Four companies were relocated to cover stations emptied due to the fire. 8 apartments were damaged in the incident. The Red Cross was notified to assist displaced families. No major injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
