    Default It's TAX time

I was just curious what kind of standard deductions if any that you claim related to being a paid firefighter. I have deducted purchasing books and studying material in the past. Ive heard some guys deduct their shoes and clothing that they have to purchase themselves. Ive also heard one guy say that you can deduct a given amount per shift due to being in the mess for food allowance. What deductions do you take??

Add these deductions to the list:
Medical expenses-for instance I had to take a physical when I went from Parttime to fulltime. I paid for it myself. That's a work related deduction.
Travel to training-Getting my FF1 cert last year required driving to the other end of a neighboring Parish several times a week. Keep track of your milage and deduct it at the end of the year.

    Add these to the question:

    Cell Phone or Pager

$30.00 meal [allowense] for each night shift

I hope you have a good lawyer because I don't think you have a good Tax Preparer.

According to my tax guy you can claim a percentage of what you pay for cell phone, pager, internet, computer and etc.... It just depends on how much you use it for work.

Haven't had much time to surf around here. I've been a bit busy with the PFL conference.

Are you gonna wait to see Ed or did you go see someone else??

I have also been advised that meals can be deducted.

I am required to provide phone number for call back purposes, therefore I provided my cel number, so I deduct that bill.

    Question

Taxes... you mean we're supposed to pay those? Oh well... maybe my state prison needs a paramedic!
