    Wood River, NE: FF LODD (2)

    On Saturday, February 14th, 2004, the Wood River, NE Fire Department responded to a house ultimately resulting in the LODD of two (2) Fire Fighters.


    At 0634 hours the Wood River, NE responded to 211 W. 12th Street for a reported house fire. Upon arrival they found a house partially engulfed in flames with a male occupant reporting his elderly wife was still in the burning home.

    Captain Robert 'Bobby' HEMINGER, 39 yoa and Captain Kenny WOITALEWICZ, 38 yoa entered the home to perform a search for the missing elderly female. During the search a portion of the structure collapsed onto of both Captains. Both Fire Fighters were rushed to St. Francis Hospital in critical condition. The elderly female occupant was pronounced dead at the scene.

    On Sunday, (02-15-04) at approx. 0600 hours, Captain HEMINGER died from his injuries. On Tuesday, (02--17-04) at approx. 13:30 hours, Captain WOITALEWICZ died of his injuries. Both Brothers were highly trained and experienced Fire Fighters.

    Brother Bobby Heminger was a 20 year decorated veteran and leaves behind his wife, Eva and two children, Jonathan 12 and Lindsay 16.

    Brother Kenny Woitalewicz was a 14 year veteran and leaves behind his wife, Melissa and two young sons.

    A joint Memorial Service will be held on Thursday (02-19) 14:00 hours at the Wood River High School.

    Our thoughts and Prayers go out the Families of these two fallen Brothers and to the members of the Wood River FD.

    Duty-Related Death of FF

    On Monday, February 16th, 2004, Brisben, NY Fire Captain Ernest HEAHERMAN, 45 yoa died following a mutual aid response.


    Brother Heatherman returned from a mutual aid call and mentioned to other Fire Fighters that he didn't feel well. Approx. an hour after return home, his wife called 911. He was rushed to a nearby Hospital where his was pronounced dead from a heart attack.

    Captain Heatherman was a 6 year member.

    He leaves behind his wife, Karen and four (4) children ages 6-13.

    His funeral will be on Friday, (02-20) at 1330 hours in Greene, NY.

    EMS LODD Dodge City, KS
    Three crew members of a Wichita-based EagleMed air ambulance died when their plane crashed about 0300hrs about 10 miles west of Dodge City KS Regional Airport. The Beech King Air 90 had departed from Wichita and crashed on private land short of its destination. No patients were on board. Crew members were pilot Brandon Bow of Dallas, TX and medical crew members Jonathon Dye of Meade, KS and Jennifer Hauptman of Coldwater, KS. May they rest in peace.
