Two aircraft alerts were reported. The first was at Air Harbor Airport just outside Greensboro. Three EMS units and County Fire Stations 5,8 and 13 responded to an “Alert 2”, based on a report of a plane coming in with engine trouble. The plane landed without incident.
Shortly after 22:30, Guilford County 9-1-1 operators answered the ring-down line from the Piedmont Triad International Airport (PTIA) tower. The tower reported an “Alert 2” for an aircraft carrying 45 SOB’s coming in on R/W 23. The plane had 3300 lbs of fuel and was having “mid flap” problems. PTIA ARFF units Smokey 1, 2 3 and 5 responded to standby locations. Guilford County Communications requested mutual aid from Greensboro E-18, 19 and 20 as well as Q-19. County Fire dispatched Tanker 264 and Tanker 514 to assist the ARFF units. Guilford EMS dispatched Medic 6, Medic 1, Unit 400 (Shift Commander), 906 (Ops Manager), 902, 450, 358, 551, 251, Unit 100 (Disaster response unit) and Carelink 830 to the scene. The plane landed safely and Smokey 5 terminated the alert.
At 21:07 Greensboro Fire dispatched E-4, E-5, Q-5, Q-7, Air 1, Rescue 5 and Car 1 to 515 N. Mendenhall St reference a structure fire called in by a neighbor. Units arrived to find nothing showing. However, an investigation revealed a fire in the front room of a house. First alarm units quickly extinguished the fire.
Gibsonville and Whitsett fire units were dispatched to 605 Minneola St. in Gibsonville for a reported structure fire. Engine 62 arrived within 4 minutes of dispatch and reported, “Smoke showing”. First alarm units quickly knocked down the fire. Unit assigned to the incident included: E-61, E-62, T-64, Deputy Chief 6, Chief 31, E-312, T-314 and GCEMS Medic 4.
Piedmont Triad Ambulance and Rescue Unit 32 called a structure fire on Randleman Rd. at Meadowview Rd. in Greensboro at 00:44. Greensboro Fire dispatched E-11, E-8, Q-11, Rescue 5 and Car 3 to the incident. E-11 arrived and reported “Heavy smoke showing from a single story restaurant, laying a line”. Air 1 was added due to the report of a working fire. Q-10 was dispatched to assist units on the scene at 01:01. E-11 was assigned fire attack, E-8 was assigned S&R and Q-11 was assigned to ventilate the structure. All searches were negative and first alarm units knocked down the fire. The fire did $40,000 in damage. The cause is undetermined at this time.
