Overnight Fire Leads To Drug Bust

TOLEDO -- The Toledo Fire Department made quite a discovery late Monday night. When they arrived on the scene of a fire at an abandoned building, they found a floor full of marijuana burning.

An anonymous call came in around 11:00 pm Monday reporting a fire at the building on Detroit at Central. The blaze started on the second floor of the aparent abandoned building. Firefighters cut through boarded up windows to get inside. Once they did, they found dozens of marijuana plants. The so-called drug lab may have actually sparked the blaze. "We think that may be part of the cause of the fire. We think the lamps and that," says Battalion Chief Bill Sulewski. Some plants were burned. What's left has been taken away by the Toledo Police Department. Electricity for the plants was coming from a series of extension cords run from nearby buildings.

Drugs aren't the only illegal goods found in the building. One the first floor were dozens of home improvement and construction equipment. Dishwashers, hot water heaters, washing machines, and various other appliances were found. Police believe they're stolen.

No arrests have been made in this case.
