    Default Retiring from the Forum

    No splat this time.

I just wanted to let you people know that I will be retiring from participation in the forum. As of 3/1/2004, after 21 years of public service, I have retired from the Morris County Prosecutor's Office to accept a position with a national forensic engineering company, EFI Inc. (www.efiglobal.com). Those 3000 or so posts I have have taken a considerable amount of time; time that I now intend to devote to writing for magazines and journals such as Fire Engineering and The Fire and Arson Investigator.

Don't look for me under another screen name. It won't be me. I may read once in awhile, but there will be no posts. I have enjoyed many of the lively debates. I have enjoyed many of the informed discussions. However, the few morons, idiots, and the uninformed masquerading as experts, have made also made these forums far more tedious than they used to be.

It has always been my belief that the single most important thing is for everyone to go home at the end in substantially the same condition as they got there. Paid or volunteer doesn't mean crap. You have a family to go home to and you owe to them to go home. That means no stupid chances, no freelancing, no bonehead decisions, no disregard of established safety procedures, no drinking or drugs and staying alert for anything.

Also, get as much training as possible. Learn about fire. It is not a living, breathing thing. It is a scientific phenomenon that is predictable if you understand it. Instead of learning about the latest microbiological weapon of mass destruction that will never hit your town (UBL does not have Wheretheheckarewe, AK circled on the map), take a class on fire dynamics. Then instead of drilling on a 2000 story nursing home with no sprinklers and hazardous materials storage on the roof, drill on your biggest fire problem...the single-family dwelling.

Stay safe. Stay dry. Love your kids.

    George,

You will be sorely missed on the forums. I look forwad to reading your articles in the fire publications. Even though we didn't always agree(and those disagreements were few and far between) I have always respected your opinion.

Good Luck in your new career.

    George,

Although we have never really interacted in the forums, I too have enjoyed and learned much from your commentary over the years. Your presence here will be missed. I wish you the best of luck in your new position and look forward to seeing your words of wisdom in print someday soon.

    George,
Good luck in your career change. Your input will be missed. You challanged my opinion on some topics and reenforced it on others. I hope you enjoy the new career, and I look forward to being able to say, "I knew that guy from the forums!"

George, my first experience with you was a rather large argument over FF's carrying handguns. From that point on, I swore that I would never be able to agree with you on anything. I found that to be extremely untrue ... we found common ground on religious beliefs, training, and even the law and how it applies to FD's ... and finally, on this ...
However, the few morons, idiots, and the uninformed masquerading as experts, have made also made these forums far more tedious than they used to be.
I feel your pain ... because of this, I have become much less active on here, as well.

I wish you the best of luck on your new endeavors.
