    MAJOR EMERGENCY STRUCTURE FIRE


    On Saturday, March 6, 2004 at 0631 hours thirty companies of Firefighters, seven Battalion Officer Command Teams, five Rescue Ambulances, two EMS District Captains, one Helicopter and one Command Post Unit under the direction of Deputy Department Commander Mario Rueda responded to a major emergency structure fire at 3255 N. Cahuenga Boulevard in the Cahuenga Pass area. First units on the scene reported a three-story 150’ by 150’ multi-occupancy office building with fire showing on the third floor. Firefighters using handlines confined the fire to the structure with extension to the attic, roof and the mansard and extinguished the fire in one hour and thirty-seven minutes. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is undetermined and the loss is estimated at $1,250,000. ($750,000 to structure and $500,000 to contents).

Firefighters chased the man and cornered him a block away. He was taken into custody by Manchester police shortly after midnight. ''It's the first time I ever chased down a car thief,'' said Manchester Fire Department Capt. Vinnie Toland.
