    Default XRT-Combi Power Unit

I'm seeking firefighter experiences with, or likes & dislikes of XRT-Combi Generator/Hydraulic Power systems. Westerbeke couples hyraulic rescue tool pumps to one of their diesel engine powered generators. We are considering buying one that will supply 10 KW of electrical power and up to 3 tools.

We've used the unit at the BRR classes.I'm favorably impressed.A nice compact package, easy starting, and nice smooth power.I'd say this is a unit you would be happy with and should get a demo on.A couple of the dealers have a trailer mounted version and I'm pretty sure they'll come to you.T.C.

    We demo'd one.

Does it do what it says? Yes.

Is the performance there? I say no. I found the HRT pump to be on the slow side.

It also sounded like a tremendous load is placed on the system when HRT's are in operation... the voltage doesn't seem to fluctuate too much when you max the tools out, but it is visibly and audibly noticeable.

A very cool idea though. Our neighbor to the north runs one on their rescue-engine... perhaps one of them is lurking...

We went with a PTO-powered HRT system. I know XRT also makes one. Ours is Amkus (Amkus Ultimate). Is the performance there? Definetly. But since we're not being supported in some issues we've been having with the system, I'm no longer recommending it to people. Don't get me wrong, I haven't seen anything faster or a better performing setup. But when you have to live with what we have lived with for almost 3 years, it gets a little old. The truck is taking another road trip to our new dealer to try to get things fixed AGAIN. Maybe we're just having bad luck... but it's been some pretty serious bad luck.

PMs if you want more info.

    Thumbs up

I've used the XRT several times for extended periods, and found it was a good tool. No outstanding problems I've experienced. I certainly suggest you consider it and inquire of others who own the tool.

I was trying to find people on this forum that have purchased the XRT System. I would rather not ask for the names customers from manufacturers. They seem to know the "right" references to give.
That is manufacturers in general, and not this one in particular.

    Thanks Resq14!

I'll call the Chief for information before going to look at the unit at FDIC next week.
