I found a number of things interesting with the comments made by the Chief in this news video.
News Article
He mentions a brother recived steam burns and they are trying to determine why this is and if it is related to the new turnouts.
Does anyone have any inside knoledge as to what types of nozzles they use in Flint? Or inside knowledge of the situation in Flint? They don't really mention any manufactures or get really specific with the problems.
As an Engineman I was just curious.

Turnout gear
I looked at this story also. Its Securtex turnout gear. I had some I got to use for about 3 months, during that time we had 8 working fires. Since I was first in on 4 of those fires, and second on the others. I got to test the gear to the limit. It worked very well the first 2 fires. After that the outer shell started to fall apart. We used it for a few more weeks. When we were finished with it, it was trashed. Thats only 3 months. As you can imagine we did not buy that gear. Every set of gear has limits, and sometimes ( ya this means that we push everything) it fails. But I am not going to say that Securtex is bad gear. But in my expierence, it didn't stand up. I would like to know if anyone has good or bad stories. Til next time, Stay Safe......

I've heard rumors that PG County MD has also had some issues with Securtex gear. Don't know the details, heard a few burns resulted from the new gear they switched over to though.
