    LOS ANGELES, CA:
CIVILIAN FATALITY AIRCRAFT CRASH WITH FIRE:

On Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at 1704 Hours (5:04 PM PST), eight Companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, including Heavy Rescue, one EMS Battalion Captain, two LAFD Rescue Ambulances, two Chief Officer Command Teams and various LAFD support units under the direction of 4th Battalion Commander Michael Reagan responded to a Civilian Fatality Aircraft Crash with Fire at 3318 South Mountain View Avenue in Mar Vista. Firefighters discovered a two-story residence and vehicle ablaze following the impact of a privately owned fixed-wing single-engine propeller-driven aircraft. According to witnesses, the plane, a 1982 Mooney Mark 20 with four-place seating was traveling from east to west through foggy conditions less than a mile from Santa Monica Airport when it struck a glancing blow to two garage rooftops and a passenger van before crashing through the rear of the occupied home and exploding into flames. An adult male resident, described as the building’s sole occupant was able to flee unharmed. Firefighters brought the aviation fuel-fed fire under control in less than 22 minutes, but not before the rear-third of the home was destroyed by the blaze. Found within the crumpled and burned aircraft cockpit were human remains believed to be of a man and woman. Their positive identification, as well as the cause and manner of their death will be determined by the Coroner’s Office. The National Transportation Safety Board initiated a formal investigation of the incident, while City of Los Angeles Building and Safety Officials were called to assess the structure, which was deemed uninhabitable. A fire watch and LAFD Command Post were expected to remain in place overnight, with removal of the deceased and the aircraft to take place the following morning.

APSN was founded by true emergency professionals that are more than just scanner listeners. We specialize in notifying you about major fire and police events as they happen around the entire State of Arizona. Our professional staff knows what news is, and we do not send minor, non newsworthy events. All television, talk radio & newspapers in Phoenix currently use APSN. When you receive an alert from APSN, you will want to know what is happening! Why wait for the evening news when you can have the news, as it happens, delivered directly to your pager or email address! How do we notify you? That is your option. Although alpha numeric pagers have proven to be the fastest form of notification, we can notify any email address that you may have. That means we can send alerts to your PDA, 2-Way pager, cell phone, or personal email.

For paging groups around the country, we use the FNNM national system for multiple alarm or newsworthy incidents. We prefer to receive incidents via SNPP but can receive via dial up modem.
