Start getting your training this year!
Locate your State's Wildland or Forestry resource and contact them. You will need to satisfactorily complete some basic wildfire training courses before you can be considered for any crew.
Ask them where you can register for the following programs:
S130 – Wildland Firefighter; S190 – Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior; and I100 – Introduction to ICS. Standards for Survival
Look Up, Look Down, Look Around
You will also need to pass the "pack test" to qualify for any deployment. If you will be seeking employment in 2005, you'll need to pass this test in that year. Again, check with your State agency to see where and when they administer this test. A description of the test can be found here.
