Do you think being hired on a department as a dispatcher could hinder you in any way when they come around to hiring FFers?

My city just put out an ad for a dispatcher and I was thinking I might throw an app in to see what happens. I just wouldn't want to be hired on and then have it go against me when they post for firefighters and I apply. Sort of a "look at all the training we just put into this person" type thing.

With my previous work history I could have a real shot at the dispatcher job. It would be great experience but I don't want to get stuck. I want to be out there...not to be sitting infront of a terminal.
