    LOS ANGELES, CA:
MULTI-PATIENT TRAFFIC COLLISION WITH ENTRAPMENT AND FATALITY:

On Monday, April 05, 2004 at 1325 Hours (1:25 PM PDT), seven Companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, twelve LAFD Rescue Ambulances, one Heavy Rescue Company, two EMS Battalion Captains, and two Chief Officer Command Teams under the direction of acting Assistant Chief Michael Reagan responded to a Multi-Patient Traffic Collision with Entrapment and Fatality at 758 East 90th Street in Watts. A passenger vehicle forcefully impacted a Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) DASH transit bus, causing massive damage to the sedan, killing its sole occupant, an adult male driver, and violently forcing both vehicles from the roadway. As the vehicles became tangled and spun, two adult female passengers were ejected from the bus and trapped beneath it when it came to rest on the northwest corner of McKinley Avenue and 90th Street. Quick work by Firefighters freed the critically injured women, allowing them to be transported to the Martin Luther King Hospital Trauma Center within seven minutes of Paramedics arrival at scene. The remaining patients, which included seven adults and five children, were methodically triaged and then comfortably transported to area hospitals for treatment of minor injuries. A crew of Firefighters later assisted the Coronerís Office with recovery of the driverís remains, while a team of Crisis Response Team Volunteers offered emotional support to the family of the deceased. Both Los Angeles Police and Department of Transportation officials have commenced a formal investigation of this incident.
