LOS ANGELES, CA:
GREATER ALARM STRUCTURE FIRE

On Wednesday, April 7, 2004 ten companies of Firefighters, three Chief Officer Command Teams, three Rescue Ambulances and one EMS Battalion Captain under the direction of Battalion Commander Timothy N. Kerbrat responded to a greater alarm structure fire at 3709 S. Avalon Boulevard in the South Los Angeles area. First units on scene reported a one-story 50’ x 150’ commercial with fire through the roof. Firefighters using handlines confined the fire to “El Carnal Sport Mufflers” and extinguished the fire in nineteen minutes. A portion of the structure was converted to living quarters and two adults and two children were displaced due to the fire. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is a spark from a welder’s torch and the loss is estimated at $110,000. ($75,000 to structure and $35,000 to contents).
