LOS ANGELES, CA:
MULTI-PATIENT TRAFFIC COLLISION


On Friday, April 9, 2004 at 2242 hours three companies of Firefighters, ten Rescue Ambulances, one EMS Battalion Captain and two Chief Officer Command Teams under the direction of Battalion Commander Joe Martin responded to a multi-patient traffic collision on Central Avenue south of Imperial Highway in the Watts area. First units on scene reported a four-vehicle collision with twelve patients. Assessment by Paramedics and Firefighters revealed four patients refused transportation and eight were transported; two females with critical injuries, five females with minor injuries and one male with minor injuries. The age range was three months to thirty years. The receiving hospitals were Martin Luther King-Drew Medical Center, Harbor/UCLA Medical Center and Saint Francis Medical Center. The cause of the incident is under investigation by LAPD South Traffic.
