Firefighter fined; pleads guilty to trespassing during wildfires

(Los Angeles-AP) -- A volunteer firefighter suspected of taking
equipment during last fall's wildfires has been ordered to pay a
500-dollar fine.
John Gilbert Herrera Jr. has also been sentenced to one year of
probation after pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges of
destruction of government property and trespassing in a national
forest.
The Colorado firefighter had been suspected of taking
five-thousand dollars in firefighting equipment from a command
center in San Bernardino.
At the time, his wife said her husband was actually bringing
tools and gear from his own volunteer department in Colorado to
help fight a wildfire in the San Bernardino Mountains.
But according to an arrest warrant affidavit, Herrera was unable
to provide proper paperwork for the equipment.
