*** REPORT FROM THE LINE OF FIRE ***

    FAYETTEVILLE, NC: 4/9/04

    By Robert Boyer

2 Alarm + Fire Damages Fayetteville Apartments

A fire Friday evening heavily damaged three condominiums at The Crossings at Morganton off Waterdown Drive.

Ten families had to leave their homes because of the fire, which began about 6 p.m. in No. 264, a three-story, 12-unit building at the rear of the complex.

No one was hurt. A cat belonging to third-floor resident died in the fire.

The woman sat crying on a curb across from her home. She held another cat as neighbors and a firefighter comforted her.

Calvin Bishop is a battalion chief for the Fayetteville Fire Department. He said flames extended from the ground to the roof in the middle of the building when firefighters arrived about 6:30.

Bishop said an electric grill on the patio of a second-floor unit may have caused the blaze. Firefighters are investigating.

    Iowa Haz Mat

On 04/10/04 at apporximately 11:30 A.M. the Woodward Fire Department was paged out for an anhydrous amonia leak at the local farm COOP. Woodward Fire Marshal reported a large cloud of anhydrous while he was responding to the station. Mutual Aid from Madrid and Bouton Fire Departments was requested before we left the station.Upon arrival we met with COOP employees who were not sure exactly where the leak was coming from other than the area of a 30,000 gallon anhydrous tank. The cloud of anhydrous was too thick to determine exactly where the leak wascoming from. Additional resourses were requested from the Des Moines Fire Department Hazardous Materials Unit. An evacuation of houses to the south of the leak was begun by firepersonnel and law enforcement. Upon the arrival of the duty officer for Des Moines Haz Mathe recoomended an evacuation area of one half mile to the south as the wind was out of thenorth.Approximately 400 people were evacuated. Upon the arrival of the rest of the Haz mat team, they suited up and made entry into the area and determined that the 30,000 gallon tank hademptied itself out through the leak. COOP officials stated that there had been approximately 13,000 gallons of anhydrous in the tank at the time of the leak. No injuries were reported and all units cleared the scene by 2:00 P.M. Assisting in addition to the above named agencies were the Woodward Police Department, Dallas County Sheriff's Department, Iowa State Patrol, Dallas County Emergency Management, Dallas County Ambulance, West Des Moines E.M.S., and Granger Ambulance.

APSN was founded by true emergency professionals that are more than just scanner listeners. We specialize in notifying you about major fire and police events as they happen around the entire State of Arizona. Our professional staff knows what news is, and we do not send minor, non newsworthy events. All television, talk radio & newspapers in Phoenix currently use APSN. When you receive an alert from APSN, you will want to know what is happening! Why wait for the evening news when you can have the news, as it happens, delivered directly to your pager or email address! How do we notify you? That is your option. Although alpha numeric pagers have proven to be the fastest form of notification, we can notify any email address that you may have. That means we can send alerts to your PDA, 2-Way pager, cell phone, or personal email.

For paging groups around the country, we use the FNNM national system for multiple alarm or newsworthy incidents. We prefer to receive incidents via SNPP but can receive via dial up modem.
