Anyone out there work for or know of the working conditions/pay scale for Yonkers FD?

I'd like to know residency req's, pay, and general job satisfaction out there if possible..

    Thanks in advance

The upcoming test for YFD is in June. Filing has already closed for that exam. Residency is basically mandatory to get hired. Starting pay is approx now $60,000 a year, great benefits, and you will see a decent amount of work/fire. Most firefighters on the department seem content to me.

Just be advised, its enourmously expensive to live in the Yonkers NYC/Westchester county area. You also need to be a resident 6 months before applying for the exam, and the next exam won't be given until 2-4 years from now.

Even when you are established on the list, it's very competitive to get in.

I'd recommend pursuing your local/states deparments over a move to Yonkers to try and get on YFD, it's scuh a longshot to do that.

Sure it's really very simple. Apply somewhere else that doesn't have residency.

If a department has residency that's simply the way it is. Being dishonest about your actual residence can and will cost you your job in the long run.
