North Platte firefighter plans to go back to work after amputation
(North Platte-AP) -- Mike McConnell of North Platte plans to
return to his job as a volunteer firefighter after having a
below-the-knee amputation due to complications of diabetes.
McConnell says once his prosthetic limb is made and he becomes
accustomed to it, he plans to resume his 18-year career as a
firefighter.
A fund-raiser today (Sunday) brought in five-thousand dollars to
help defray the cost of McConnell's medical bills.
McConnell says he is grateful to the community for its
assistance.
(Thanks, KNOP, North Platte)
