Thumbs down Glad I Don't Live There............

That is a crazy situation. From what I read, there really is a problem with union labor leaders and some politicians. Free health insurance? Give me a break. (And if you don't know me, I'm a retired Career F/F and a former IAFF member) Anybody know what the call volume is for those 9 stations? This place needs new leadership (political) and major policy overhaul.

    Smile Well.................

Thanks CB, A little insight goes a long way. I'm just totally amazed that places like that have Career departments. Here, We are roughly 10 times that population over 430 Sq miles, 48 stations, operated by approximately 700 Career folks with about 1750 active Volunteers. Our Engine 33 is the Second busiest Engine in America, (according to FH) and it is a totally Volunteer station. I don't know what they did last year, but around 8,000 is a good ballpark figure

Doubt anyone is going to read this since it was so long ago an half the thread is deleted but Warwick Fire does over 15,000 runs a year with a population of 85k at night and damn near double that weekdays with a protection area of just under 50 square miles. We have 200 career firefighters.

    Default I Read It...........

I saw someone had dug it up, so I read it. The Discussion back then was inspired by my attitude that a lot of places that have serious financial problems refuse to look at all of the options. I felt that way then, I still do today. I am totally amazed at places that have a Fire Department that consists of 2 Engines with 2 people on each, and fight to avoid having Volunteers for additional Staffing. There is no excuse for every piece of Apparatus in this nation NOT TO HAVE every seat filled.
