    Default Traffic Control at Accidents

I wanted to see if anyone has information on Traffic Control at Accident scenes. What are the laws and who is responsible for Traffic Control ? (FD or PD ?). Is there any formal training available to protect us while directing traffic ? What are the requirements ? Do you need special vests or equipment ? (Cones, etc.). I am from Michigan and looking for laws specific to Michigan or National rules.

Don't think you're going to find any "national" rules. I think the answers you get are going to vary. Some places have the FD directing traffic, as they don't trust the PD. Others PD WON'T do it. We don't do it unless we absolutely have to. That is a job for the police. We park our rigs to protect the scene and ourselves. If we need to shut down traffic we will block the road. We get along great with our PD, and we will jeep open what we can, as long as we are safe. They usually understand and will assist however they are needed.

Sorry, should have clarified........... I knew about THOSE rules.... I was referring to who is in charge of traffic control, not how. Was thinking it in my head when I typed, but it never made it to my fingers.........
