What is your favorite kind of cake? My husband, son, and I are visiting one of the rescue companies in NYC in July and have heard that it's proper etiquette to come armed with a cake. Not being a big eater of cake myself, I am taking a poll to see what kind of cakes are most popular. Thanks for your help.

Not much of a Sweet Tooth here either... but there is a "soft spot" when it comes to either home baked bannana bread or a good Black Forest cake........ Of course shortbread cookies are very difficult to resist too.

I like my cake like I like my women. Wait thats wrong. I would have to go towards bannana crumb or maybe choclate w/ chocolate icing. But I have a feeling they will like whatever you may bring w/ you.

Whatever you make, keep it simple. Good ol' chocolate with chocolate icing is my favorite. No exotic berries from the rain forest sprinkled on it, or something like that. Too many times, we get "This is something new I'm trying; let me know how it is!" Thanks, but no thanks; please don't experiment on your local firefighters!

My personal favs are German chocolate or my mom's carrot cake, but anything should go over fine. After all, it's the thought that counts.

Earlier in here I commented on what my favorite personal choices would be.
However, I must agree with Gonzo and some of the others: if you (or someone else) went to the effort of making a cake or some other dessert, then "We" will eat it, because in the end it is the thought and the effort that count. And that comes from the guy who will generally by-pass the dessert table at the buffet, and take a second or third run on the main courses instead.

Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Cake
I Love the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Cake. A bit costly but good.

Don't tell me I'm the only person out there who'd prefer pie!
That said, if you came to my station and brought food, I wouldn't really care what you brought. Just bringing something is thoughtful enough, and I'd gladly have at least a sample of it. As others have noted, I bet you'll get that same response just about anywhere you go.
But if it's gonna be cake, I'd favor something simple. Spice cake ain't bad. I happen to like pineapple upside-down cake too.
Dang -- now I'm gettin' hungry!

Don't worry about the type of cake.....the gesture is what counts. As George W. Bush said to the troops in Baghdad...."Let them eat cake!"
Or maybe that was George Washington?

Many brothers here haven't been totally truthful. A firefighters favorite cake is the one that gets wheeled in with a "special treat" jumping out of the top
This may be hard to make/move, but it will be a huge success!

I wish I could arrange it, but I don't think we'd have room for the cake and the "special treat" in our car. She would have to sit in the backseat with our 15-year-old, which would make him way too happy for a boy of his age.
