So now that the holiday is approaching, I am curious as to what everyones favorite patriotic song is. Reason is I'm trying to get a compilation of songs for a party I am hosting on the 4th and need some music to play while we watch the fireworks figure it'd add a nice touch to a great day. thanks and hope everyone has a safe (and slow) holiday. One more thing while we are all celebrating this great country lets not forget the men & women fighting for us right now and also those that have gone before them so that we may continue to have a country as good as ours and the ability to be free.

One of my favorite movies is "The Sandlot" and that is what they play during the fireworks display. Truly an awesome combination.

Just because it's called a throw bag, doesn't mean you throw the whole bag... you're supposed to hold onto the rope.

America the Beautiful. Gives me goosebumps every time.
Have a happy and safe 4th of July!

I am kinda partial to O' Canada, but I don't think that works out well for a 4th of July celebration.
When I think about the 4th of July, back yard BBQ's, baseball games, and spending time with friends. Some songs that I think represent all those are:
~ Pink Houses by John "don't call me Cougar" Mellencamp
~ Let the Good Times Roll by The Cars
~ Big League by Tom Cochrane
~ Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin
~ Hotel California by the Eagles
And for the more patriotic,
~ The Ballad of The Green Beret by Sgt. Barry Sadler"No one ever called the Fire Department for doing something smart..."

Another idea you might consider is a song like "America The Beautiful" or something similiarly patriotic being performed by a bagpipe band. There are tons of these available on the net, such as the FDNY Pipes & Drums CD. There is something about these pieces of music being performed on a 'pipe that can't be matched by anything else. Just a idea...

We have a local radio station that gets together with the company putting on the fireworks show and they put together a mix of songs to go along with the show. It usually turns out pretty good with songs hitting certain spots in conjunction with the big booms.......
As for the songs, I have to agree with Lee Greenwood's God Bless the USA.......

They always played "Proud to be an American" at the end of the laser/fireworks show at Darien Lake whenever we stayed there. Always made me wish we were a little more patriotic on this side of the falls

Yeah there's not a whole lot of patriotism in this country, at least not like what you see Stateside.
To the world you might be one person, but to one person you just might be the world.

Story time:Yeah there's not a whole lot of patriotism in this country, at least not like what you see Stateside.
I was in Montreal for the Gran Prix and the Mets were in town vs. the Expos. A buddy and I decided to take in a game. The Stadium was a bit less than full, matter of fact the whole upper tier was empty and we decided to go sit in the last two seats in the last row of the upper deck in left field.
Just before the game started, we spotted an usher coming our way, I suggested he was going to check our seat #. As he approached, the Star Spangled Banner began to play. We rose, hand over hearts and began to sing along. The usher made his way to us and stated, "You can't stay here".
I leered at him and semi-yelled, "HEY, they're playing my national anthem!!!. He immediatly snapped to attention and began singing along.
Following the anthem, they began playing "Oh Canada". So I nudged him and asked, "Now, what were you saying?"
